A new Haiku every day
Bartholdi’s goddess/and ginger bearded stranger/a love from first sight.’
A note of explanation: This haiku is dedicated to my great-great-grandfather who came to America from Ireland. Frederic Bartholdi designed the statue of liberty from the Roman goddess ‘Libertas’ My grandfather from all his pictures and accounts had a thick red beard. He was a stowaway on a ship. I imagine it was a great moment for him to see the statue for the first time
I try to hold you, but sometimes you escape me, and run down my cheek.

Bare branches dangle, like an empty clothes hanger, waiting for laundry
‘Safflower sunrise/silver dew on emerald leaves/blackbird sings the blues”
“When Yesterday’s freed/from Today’s tight fearful grip/Tomorrow begins.”
“Tougher than Diamonds, Your soul’s multi-colored hues, fill life with color”
“Cacooned in blankets, the need for heat much greater, than the need to pee”
